A short film about Jews, Chinese food and storytellers

You'll laugh. You'll cry. You'll think of your own family and Sunday night dinners with containers of Chinese food. We liked the On-On Tea Garden in Vancouver. Watching this made me think of my dad, who never got through telling a funny story because he was laughing too hard. Thank you, Daniel Gelfant.

My people love Chinese Food and love to tell stories. Not long ago, I ordered in and put a group of my favourite alte-kakers around my 89-year old father’s dinner table to capture this peculiar ritual , some old friends and great stories. You’ll hear about the caterer who assaulted the butcher with a brisket, how to eat a stale corned beef sandwich, and the New York adventures of a schmata man from Winnipeg. I hope you agree that this intimate film is a charming testimony to my people's enduring ability to entertain anyone who will listen. Dedicated to the great storytellers who sat around our table while I was growing up.

L'Chaim...and please pass the sweet and sour pork!
